Labor Day Weekend is Coming

Upcoming Events:
This Friday is our first Friday of the month and I wanted to talk about some of the festivities that always happen on the first Friday.         YAY! FESTIVITIES!!
            1. Early Release: Students will be released at 12:45.
            2. Lunch is still served.
            3. Uniform Free Dress Day; students will pay $1.00 to not wear a uniform. However, the
                     outfit must be school appropriate.
 I think that is all of the festivities of the Festival Friday, put it in your calendar.

Free Dress Monies:
      Where does the money go you ask?
This year the Festival Friday Uniform Free Dress Monies will be split for OPAPO (OPA Parent Organization) and Special Service Oriented Projects. The Second Uniform Free Dress Day Monies will be for all OPA Travel and Trips.

Sports:
Cross Country, and Volleyball are underway. Check the www.opaeagles.org website for schedules and calendars.

FAMILY ART NIGHTS:
We are excited about this new addition to the activities at OPA! Our first OPA Family Art Night is Thursday, September, 8th from 5-6:30. This first one is for Kindergarteners, first-graders and their families. Sign up sheets are in the front office of the elementary. In October there will be another one for 2nd and 3rd graders, November is for 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Sign-up while there is still space!

OPAPO Carnival:
OPAPO is gearing up for this year's Carnival and having weekly planning meetings every Tuesday in the Elementary Library from 4-5pm. If you would like to get some parent volunteer hours come help organize and plan this year's carnival.

Clubs:
Club Information:
All students (1st through 6th grade) are welcome to the following clubs with parent’s permission. Permission slips and more information  can be found at opaeagles.org under clubs and activities tab or under the stairs in the front office. All clubs run until – 3:45 except running club which ends at 4:00 pm. Clubs begin in September.

1st and 2nd grade Book Club
1st Wednesday of each month
Please bring your favorite book or a book from a loved author for our first meeting.

3rd and 4th grade Book Club
2nd Wednesday of each month Please bring your favorite book(s)  or author(s)  to share and ideas for genres or books you would like to read throughout the year for our first meeting.

5th and 6th grade Book Club
3rd Wednesday of each month
Please bring your favorite book(s)  or  author(s) to share and ideas  for genres or books you would like to read throughout the year for our first meeting.

Yoga 
Every Monday
Yoga Club is an opportunity for your student to learn and practice yoga and mindful meditation.

Lego Club
Every Tuesday
This club will be capped at 35 students per quarter.
Lego Club is an opportunity for your student to participate in a free build and project directed club where he or she can create with legos after school in the art room with Mrs. MacKay.

Young Runners - 2nd - 9th grade
Every Thursday
The Young Runners Program is an education series sponsored by the Goal Foundation to help increase the amount of exercise students get each day. Throughout the program they are building their self-esteem through their participation in the program and reaching their ultimate goal of running the 5K in the Ogden Marathon. The students will work up to 3 miles of running and also learn about healthy food choices and strengthening drills. Mrs. Briggs will be coaching with the help of teacher/parent volunteers.
